So, the CDC estimates that 9.4 million of the illnesses are caused by 31 known foodborne pathogens, and that 90% of all illnesses due to known pathogens, are caused by seven pathogens: <em>Salmonella<\/em>, norovirus, <em>Campylobacter<\/em>, <em>Toxoplasma<\/em>, <em>E. coli<\/em> O157:H7, <em>Listeria,<\/em> and <em>Clostridium perfringens<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-18504\" src=\"http:\/\/foodsafetytrainingcertification.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/foodillness_foodsafety_001_shutterstock_1322818331.jpg\" alt=\"foodillness_foodsafety\" width=\"1024\" height=\"610\" \/><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<h3>Reporting Food Illness Outbreaks<\/h3>\n<p>When two or more people get the same illness from the same contaminated food or drink, the event is called a foodborne illness outbreak. Reporting illnesses to your local health department helps them identify potential outbreaks of foodborne illness. Public health officials investigate outbreaks to control them, so more people do not get sick in the outbreak, and to learn how to prevent similar outbreaks from happening in the future.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;
